Each PC where you plan to install Fitness Center PRO should be running Microsoft Windows XP
along with the latest Microsoft service packs and security patches.
In addition, each PC must have the Microsoft Jet 4.0 database engine installed.
(Note that the Microsoft Jet 4.0 database engine is
automatically installed with Microsoft Access 2000/2002 or with Microsoft Office XP Professional.)
In you do not have Microsoft Jet 4.0 installed, follow these pre-requisite steps:
- Download the Microsoft Jet 4.0 installer by clicking on this link: dao.zip. Remember the location on your PC where you download the file.
- Using Windows Explorer, find the file you just downloaded and right-click on the file. Select "Extract All" and extract the temporary installation files to a suitable location.
- Find and double-click the Setup.exe file you extracted in Step 2. Follow the on-screen installation instructions. If you are planning to run Fitness Center PRO on a stand-alone PC, or if you would like to try a demonstration version of Fitness Center PRO, follow these steps:
- Download the Fitness Center PRO installer by clicking on this link: FCPRO32.msi. Remember the location on your PC where you download the file.
- Using Windows Explorer, find the file you just downloaded and double-click on the file. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
- Before attempting to use Fitness Center PRO, restart your PC.
If you are planning to run Fitness Center PRO in a client-server configuration (i.e., with multiple workout check-in/out stations on a network), follow the instructions in this section. Note that it is not necessary to run the Windows Server operating system. And you don't necessarily need a domain name server on your network; a simple peer-to-peer network will suffice. For the PC designated as your server follow these steps:- Download the Fitness Center PRO server installer by clicking on this link: FCPRO32_Server.msi. Remember the location on your PC where you download the file.
- Using Windows Explorer, find the file you just downloaded and double-click on the file. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
On each client PC where you want to run a Fitness Center PRO client application (Fitness Center PRO.exe, PRO Admin.exe, PRO Touchscreen.exe, et al.), follow these steps:- Download the Fitness Center PRO client installer by clicking on this link: FCPRO32_Client.msi. Remember the location on your PC where you download the file.
- Using Windows Explorer, find the file you just downloaded and double-click on the file. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
- Configure the Fitness Center PRO client PCs to locate the server (i.e., the database and other critical files) on your specific network by setting Windows environment variables. The environment variables consist of a name (e.g., "FCPRO_DB") and the path (network or local) to the associated files (e.g., "Z:\mdb"). The Fitness Center PRO installers create the necessary environment variables with default values that you will need to update. For details on how to set environment variables, consult your Windows XP operating system help documentation.
A Fitness Center PRO installation is configured based on network drive mapping. For instance, on your server PC, you would typically install the Fitness Center PRO server files in the "C:\Program Files\FitnessWizard\Fitness Center PRO" folder. Then on all PCs where the Fitness Center PRO client components are installed, you might map a "Z:\" drive to the "C:\Program Files\FitnessWizard\Fitness Center PRO" folder on the server. Given this mapping, you would need to set Windows environment variables on each client PC as shown in the following table. (You should set the variables as System environment variables, rather than as User variables.)
VariableValueFCPRO_DBZ:\mdbFCPRO_STNZ:\stationsFCPRO_WTZ:\wtstacksFCPRO_TXTZ:\txtFCPRO_BACKZ:\backup
- After you finish configuring the environment variables, reboot each client PC.
Fitness Center PRO provides numerous built-in capabilities for customizing functionality. You can access these capabilities yourself at any time using the Fitness Center PRO user interface. This section provides a brief overview of these capabilities.-
PRO AdministrationYou can customize Fitness Center PRO to your facility specifications with PRO Administration. Since PRO Administration provides access to options critical to your facility, the program is password-protected. The password is initially set to "Hercules", but you can change it from within PRO Administration. The same password is used to control access to critical database functions throughout Fitness Center PRO.
- PRO TouchscreenPRO Touchscreen is designed for entry of workout data with a touch screen monitor. In addition to the monitor itself, you need the appropriate Windows XP driver software for the monitor. If you do not have a touch screen monitor (and/or the software driver), you can use PRO Touchscreen to enter workout data with a regular monitor and mouse. To quit PRO Touchscreen, simultaneously hit "Ctrl" and "x" on the keyboard.
- Report ServerReport Server (rptsrvr.exe) is the component of Fitness Center PRO that supports printing. You can run Report Server on any Windows XP PC that is connected to your network and to a printer. Report Server will print to the PC's default printer. When starting the main Fitness Center PRO program, Report Server will also automatically start on the same PC (if the "Options, Start Report Server at Start-Up" pull-down menu is checked). However, this may not be desirable. Some reports can take a great deal of time to compile and/or print, so you can enhance overall system performance by running Report Server on a dedicated PC. If you choose this option, (1) toggle off the automatic start-up of Report Server from Fitness Center PRO [via the pull-down menu option] and (2) set up the appropriate PC to manually launch the rptsrver.exe executable.
- Backup UtilityBackup Utility (fcprobk.exe) is the component of Fitness Center PRO that backs up data from your database. You can run Backup Utility on any Windows XP PC that is connected to your network. The utility will generate backup files in the folder specified by the FCPRO_BACKUP environment variable. When exiting the main Fitness Center PRO program, Backup Utility will automatically start the backup process (if the "Options, Auto Backup at Exit" pull-down menu is checked). However, this may not be desirable since the backup may take a considerable amount of time.
If you are having trouble installing and configuring the software, be aware that the vast majority of installation problems are due to incorrect network drive mapping or inaccurate environment variable configuration; a careful review of configuration usually always resolves the issue.
